How Artilux Fly Screen Compare To
Traditional Flyscreens

Retractable Fly Screens

Traditional Sliding
Flyscreen Door`s

Discretion / Visibility

Disappear from view when not in use, preserving the aesthetic of your space.

Traditional fly screens are always visible and therefore have an impact on the aesthetics of the windows or doors being covered.

Functionality

Easy operation: the insect screen mesh rolls into a cassette (retractable screens), or folds into a compact stack on one side (pleated screens)

The insect screen mesh can’t be hidden or put away, and depending on the size it will have mid rails or mullions in the way of your views.

Compatible door types

Artilux fly screens can be installed in almost any type of door:

  • Bifold, French, Sliding, Stacker doors, corner doors, etc.

Traditional insect screens are good for:

  • Single-hinged doors and sliding doors.
  • Not a solution for Bifold doors and is very obtrusive on French Doors.

Compatible window types

Artilux fly screens can be installed in almost any type of window:

  • Casement, awning, double-hung, bifold windows, etc. Even louvre windows can be screened.

Traditional insect screens often rely on unsightly port holes or other accessories to facilitate window operation, detracting from the overall aesthetic.

Maintenance

Artilux fly screens are protected within their housing (cassette or stack of mesh) when not in use, requiring less maintenance as a result.

Traditional fly screens feature mesh that is exposed at all times, accumulating dust and requiring frequent cleaning.

Design

Modern, sleek design with narrow frames.

Traditional flyscreens are available in standard frames only with very limited options.

Aesthetic Impact

Integrates seamlessly with door or window frames, appearing as a natural extension of the opening rather than an added feature. As a result, it adds value to the property.

Standard flyscreens are typically visible additions to windows or doors, contrasting with the seamless integration of retractable screens. Consequently, they are unlikely to enhance the property's value.

FAQs

Pleated fly screens operate by neatly stacking away or unfolding as you open or close them. Unlike screens that feature a cassette design and spring tensioned mechanism, pleated screens provide an alternative that combines ease of use and durability. The pleated design allows the screen to easily slide along the opening and stack away in a very compact form. With very narrow tracks and the ability to fit in almost any opening, pleated screens blend seamlessly when stacked away, preserving the aesthetic of your home without compromise. Retractable fly screens feature a roll of mesh housed in a cassette. They can be easily extended or withdrawn as needed, facilitated by a spring-loaded mechanism for rolling and unrolling the mesh. Complete with small tracks and compact housing, retractable fly screens conserve space while preserving the aesthetic of your home. Both Pleated and Retractable fly screens are designed to respect the aesthetics of your living areas, blending seamlessly in different ways to enhance the visual appeal of your home.

Retractable fly screens are versatile and are particularly suitable for small to medium-sized openings. Their spring-loaded mechanism, similar to a roller blind, allows for easy rolling and unrolling of the screen. With their compact housing and slim tracks, retractable fly screens seamlessly blend with various door types, providing a discreet and space-saving solution that complements your home’s aesthetics.

Pleated screens are remarkably adaptable and are an excellent choice for openings of any size, but particularly for wide openings. Whether it’s small, medium, or large-sized openings, including bifold doors, sliding doors, French doors, or any other type of large opening, pleated screens provide an excellent solution. Their pleated design allows for smooth sliding and stacking away, making them ideal for enhancing airflow and insect protection while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of your home.

Yes, retractable fly screens can be installed on casement windows. The most frequently chosen option for windows is a Roll Up screen, although in certain cases, a pleated screen might be a better fit. Whether your windows serve as a stylistic centerpiece or as practical features for ventilation, installing Artilux’s premium retractable fly screens can cater to both needs. These screens maximize airflow and maintain your views with a seamless installation process. The final setup is discreet, ensuring your windows remain functional and aesthetically pleasing, ready to handle any scenario.

At Artilux, achieving an exact match to seamlessly integrate our products with your door frame is our top priority. That’s why we proudly offer over 100 powder-coating colours as a standard feature at no extra cost. In the rare instance where a colour has been discontinued by our suppliers, our dedicated team will spare no effort in finding the closest match available. Additionally, for those seeking specific shades or finishes, we offer over 200 premium colours in powder coating, anodising, and woodgrain finishes for a small additional fee. With Artilux, rest assured that every detail is meticulously crafted to enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of your living spaces.

While installing retractable fly screens may seem straightforward, it often involves complexities beyond typical DIY projects. Considerations such as ensuring level and square openings are crucial. It’s not uncommon to find that openings are not completely level or square, which can compromise the functioning of the retractable screen. Here are key reasons to consider professional installation:
  • Time and complexity: Understanding and correctly installing these screens can be time-consuming, especially for those new to such projects.
  • Measurement accuracy: Errors in measuring can lead to issues with custom-made screens that may not be easily returnable or adjustable.
  • Choosing the right screen: Professionals can recommend the best screen for your specific needs and application, ensuring optimal functionality and aesthetics.
  • Installation risks: Incorrect installation can lead to functional problems, and without professional help, resolving these issues can be challenging.
In summary, professional installation ensures accuracy, functionality, and peace of mind, saving you time and potential difficulties.

At Artilux, our retractable fly screens work via a simple, yet ingenious mechanism: a roll of mesh that works similar to a roller blind, but instead is spring-loaded. The roll of mesh is hidden from view and housed in a discreet cassette. Our cassettes can be fitted horizontally for Roll-Up fly screens or vertically for Roll-Away screens. We incorporate soft closing mechanisms into the spring tensioning of our rolls of mesh. This ensures that when you extend and release the screen, it will gently roll back into the cassette without slamming into it. We add soft closers into the spring tensioning to our rolls of mesh. This means if you extend and release the screen, it will roll gently back into the cassette for convenient, seamless extension and hiding away.
